All That Jazz!

We are studying the history and culture of the Roaring Twenties and have had the chance to have a little fun!  We sung All That Jazz from the musical Chicago, then analyzed the lyrics to find examples of slang terminology from the '20s.  We read some background information about the Charleston, a popular dance of the age, then cleared the dance floor and tried it out:

We concluded our study by researching and writing biographies on famous figures of the 1920s, otherwise known as Character Sketches.  Students were required to research, write a properly formatted essay, then present to the class.  Instead of having each student present in the third person, the students were asked to come to class dressed as the person they researched and present in the first person.  I dressed up as a flapper to inspire them and they had some fantastic and creative costumes of their own!
